9:10 am - 9:40 am INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: Delivering Safe and Reliable Services at Metro Rio through Intelligent Systems for Passengers and Asset Management

Overall expansion of the Metro Rio rail network contributed to the volume stability of passengers transported, equivalent to 2.93 billion people in 2017. If not for the increase in systems, expansion of the network and new stations, passenger demand would have fallen 1.2%. In this international case study presentation, Joubert will discuss how Metro Rio successfully expanded their services to meet passenger demand, referencing the intelligent systems and upgrades to ensure safe and reliable transportation, particularly for future networks.
  • Providing new fleet fitted with a modern layout, new airconditioning, multimedia systems and accessibility to provide comfort for passengers, and how to maintain such assets to future proof network reliability

10:10 am - 10:50 am INTERNATIONAL CASE STUDY: Digital Innovation at OBB: Transitioning to a Digitised Railway

OBB (Austrian Federal Railway) is embarking on numerous digitised projects to integrating into the railway system. Yet this is not just large disruptive changes like autonomous driving, which is often the misconception of digitised railways. Instead, this includes a mix of augmented and virtual reality usage for training, education and maintenance, 3D printing as well as interpreting big data for predictive maintenance. In this international case study, Gerald will focus on OBB’s digital innovation projects, reporting on learnings, experiences and failures, discussing:
  • Insights into key projects and prototypes of digitisation at OBB and what has worked to unlock real productivity for business development
  • Developing a digitisation strategy in the right way to understand which aspects of digitisation to tackle first

Rail Futures Institute, a non-partisan non profit advocacy group, that has been developing a comprehensive forward 30 year vision of tram, light rail and train networks in Melbourne that connect better, can handle exploding population growth, and could be financed and delivered in coming decades.

One of the main challenges for Light Rail planners is when a new light rail line must fit into existing road infrastructure. The Midland Metro Alliance (MMA) is a team of planning, design and construction specialists building a number of new tram extensions over the coming decade on behalf of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). With around £1.3bn being invested in extending the tram system across the West Midlands over the next ten years, this is an unprecedented light rail infrastructure project to help deliver a lasting legacy that will enable social and economic regeneration across the region.
